The first episode of "Maryada" in 2012 was really exciting! As Uttara's birthday party continued, she kept trying to get hold of Brahma, eager for him to make the announcement of his divorce from Devyani and their impending marriage. However, Brahma kept successfully avoiding her. Finally, when Uttara had started to make the announcement Brahma faked an illness and went upstairs.
Uttara followed him and told him that she knew he was just pretending to be ill and that if he was not going to make the announcement than she would herself. Brahma threw her on the bed and told her that neither was he going to tell anyone nor was she. He told her that he never intended to marry her and she was only good for sleeping with a few times. Uttara was shocked and refused to believe this, thinking that he was only saying this in anger. However, Brahma told her that she was only a tool for him to use against Devyani and she was stupid for ignoring her sister's warnings and believing his lies. He further said that she is not worth marrying, otherwise why would her first husband have beaten her?
Although this was a long-awaited wake up call for Uttara, I actually felt a little bad for her character today. Although she willingly slept with her brother-in-law, he did manipulate her into it and made her believe that his marriage to her sister was in name only and that he truly loved her and wanted to marry her. Today, he basically told her that he considered her nothing better than a prostitute, something that no woman wants to her and certainly not from the man she "loves".
As "Maryada" comes to an end at the end of January, it will be interesting how the CVs wind up all the plots. Let's keeping watching!
